Van Gogh's Bedroom at Arles

About This Puzzle

• Van Gogh's Bedroom™ – Balance Tessellated Whimsy Wooden Puzzle

Step into one of the most intimate and recognizable rooms in art history with Van Gogh's Bedroom™, a beautifully crafted Balance Tessellated Whimsy Wooden Puzzle featuring Vincent van Gogh's celebrated masterpiece The Bedroom (La Chambre à Arles).

• Painted in October 1888 in Arles, France, the artwork depicts Van Gogh's own bedroom in the famous Yellow House, where he dreamed of creating a community of artists in the South of France.

Rendered in vivid blues, warm yellows, soft greens, and rich reds, this deceptively simple interior is one of Van Gogh's most personal works. The room's unusual angles, flattened perspective, and bold colours were deliberate artistic choices. Van Gogh explained that he wanted the painting to convey a feeling of rest, tranquillity, and sleep, using colour rather than realistic detail to create emotion. He even compared the effect to Japanese prints, which greatly influenced his work.

• A Puzzle Inspired by Balance

This special edition features a tessellated whimsy cut, with uniquely shaped wooden pieces designed to symbolize balance, harmony, and connection. As each piece interlocks with the next, the puzzle mirrors the themes found in the painting itself—a carefully arranged personal sanctuary created to bring calm and stability.

• A Glimpse Into Van Gogh's Life

At the time he painted The Bedroom, Van Gogh was living in the Yellow House in Arles and preparing for the arrival of fellow artist Paul Gauguin. He had furnished and decorated the room himself and was filled with hope for the artistic community he wished to build there. The painting was created shortly after an illness that had left him bedridden, making it an especially personal expression of recovery, comfort, and peace.
