About This Puzzle

• The Lady and the Unicorn: Taste – Museum Masterpiece Jigsaw Puzzle
• Discover one of the world's most celebrated medieval artworks with this stunning puzzle featuring Taste, one of the six magnificent tapestries from the legendary Lady and the Unicorn series.

Created around 1500 and now housed in the Musée de Cluny, National Museum of the Middle Ages in Paris, the Lady and the Unicorn tapestries are considered among the greatest surviving treasures of medieval European art. The series consists of six monumental tapestries, five representing the senses of Sight, Hearing, Touch, Taste, and Smell, while the sixth, À Mon Seul Désir ("To My Only Desire"), remains one of art history's most enduring mysteries.

• The Taste Tapestry

In this enchanting scene, the elegantly dressed lady stands between a majestic lion and a unicorn, each bearing heraldic banners. Assisted by an attendant, the lady takes a sweet delicacy from a golden dish while a monkey below imitates the action, reinforcing the tapestry's theme of taste. The figures are surrounded by an extraordinary millefleurs landscape, a richly detailed field of flowers populated by rabbits, birds, monkeys, dogs, and other animals.

• The tapestry's vibrant crimson background, jewel-toned costumes, delicate floral motifs, and countless hidden details create a captivating puzzle experience, rewarding close observation and patience.
• A Monumental Achievement

The original tapestries are astonishing in scale, measuring approximately 3.5 to 3.8 metres (11 to 12 feet) high, with widths reaching several metres across. Standing before them is an immersive experience, as viewers are surrounded by thousands of woven flowers, animals, and symbolic details.

• A Mystery That Has Endured for Five Centuries

While the five sensory tapestries are relatively straightforward, scholars still debate the deeper meaning of the series and the purpose of the mysterious sixth panel. Questions surrounding its symbolism, patronage, and interpretation continue to fascinate historians, art lovers, and visitors from around the world.

• Extraordinary Craftsmanship

Woven from luxurious wool and silk by master artisans in Flanders from designs created in Paris, the tapestries represent the pinnacle of medieval textile artistry. Every flower, animal, jewel, and garment was painstakingly rendered thread by thread. The astonishing complexity of the millefleurs backgrounds and the brilliance of the surviving colours demonstrate a level of craftsmanship rarely equaled in the history of decorative arts.
