• The Story of Our Lady of Guadalupe
• According to Catholic tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Juan Diego, an Indigenous convert to Christianity, on Tepeyac Hill near Mexico City in December 1531.

During these apparitions, Mary requested that a church be built on the site. As a sign for the local bishop, Juan Diego gathered roses in his cloak, or tilma. When he opened the garment, the flowers fell away, revealing the miraculous image of Our Lady imprinted upon the fabric. The tilma remains one of the most treasured religious artifacts in the world and is housed in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.
